We’re so excited to share all the great new programs we created over the summer at our Family & Youth Opportunity Center, such as our new computer lab, library/study space and music room. A steady stream of INMED community partners, donors and supporters stopped by last Friday for a sneak preview at our open house. With their assistance, we are able to provide program activities to children and families, situated in Loudoun County, that have the fewest resources. Note: Our program (student) enrollment process for participants are based on referrals from the elementary schools in our district. It is not an open registration for the After-School Academic Enrichment Program (which occurs during the week: Mon – Thurs).

A BIG thank you to community partner Five Stones Institute and Dr. Martha Calihan for their mindfulness classes for our kids in INMED’s summer camp sessions. Five Stones is using the practice of mindfulness to teach our children to define and understand ways to address stress, anger and frustration and to develop a set of personal tools, such as controlled breathing, meditation and relaxation, to support calm and balanced responses to stressors.
Do you or your company have a unique skill to share? Please consider leading an enrichment workshop, seminar or course for our After-School or Family Education programs. Contact Programs Director, Maria Vasquez for more information: 703-729-4951 or email@example.com.

Today is the first day of school for children in Loudoun County. We are thankful to Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis Randall, Sterling Supervisor Koran Saines and all the other Supervisors who supported and encouraged INMED’s efforts to provide free bus service to students in our after-school program at the Family & Youth Opportunity Center in Sterling. We now pick up students from the Sterling, Rolling Ridge and Guilford Elementary Schools, who would not otherwise be able to get to the center on their own. Students in INMED’s FREE Saturday cooking class at the Family & Youth Opportunity Center are exploring the culinary arts and learning skills for becoming self-sufficient. Special thanks to community partner Ekklesia USA for providing instructors for this class. Students pictured here cooked a Latin American favorite called salchispaguetty (spaghetti with hot dog), which they proudly served to their parents.
