INMED’s After-School Academic Enrichment Program

Students attending INMED’s After-School Academic Enrichment Program at the Opportunity Center are focused on their school work, before they can relax and enjoy recreational activities in the library and computer lab. After a nutritious snack, children settle down with their volunteer tutors for homework completion time. This one-on-one assistance not only helps children improve academically but increases their self-confidence. The INMED After-School Academic Enrichment Program can always use more volunteers. If you have time to spend with a deserving child, once a week (for 1-hour) between 3 pm and 6 pm, any day from Monday – Thursday, please contact Maria Vasquez, Director of Programs at 571-465-2035 or mvasquez@inmed.org.

Three new Trustees have joined the Family & Youth Opportunity Center Board of Trustees

INMED is pleased to announce three new Trustees have joined the Family & Youth Opportunity Center Board of Trustees. Dawn Crawley, left, is the owner of House Cleaning Heroes in Leesburg and is a masterful networking professional in the business community. Next to Dawn is Bob Brantley, Senior Director for Air Transport & Mission Solutions for Rockwell Collins at the Simulation and Training Solutions facility in Sterling, VA.  Bob and wife Pam (our Tuesday Arts & Crafts volunteer instructor) recently relocated to Loudoun from Utah. Jennifer Lassiter, CEO of Paxton Trust, is our third new Trustee. As the former Executive Director of Paxton Campus, Jennifer is well-known in the community and has a huge heart for helping children with special needs. The INMED Opportunity Center is very fortunate to have these dedicated professionals working on our behalf.

Thank you to BENEFIT Loudoun Music Festival and the Village at Leesburg

A big thank you to the organizers of the BENEFIT Loudoun Music Festival and the Village at Leesburg for raising awareness and support of Loudoun’s nonprofits last Saturday. INMED’s Family & Youth Opportunity Center sponsored the temporary tattoo tent, which was popular with kids and adults of all ages. Christine Kopp was the lucky winner of INMED’s raffle prize—an Amazon Echo Show touchscreen! Our friend and Barn Blast entertainer extraordinaire, Juliana MacDowell, was among the top local musicians who donated their time and talent to help the nonprofit community and the people we serve. Thanks also to the bands drumfish, HalfKing Emerging Artists, Big Bad Juju, Frayed Knots and singer Todd Wright. And thank you to all the amazing teen volunteers who turned out to make the event a smooth-running machine!

We’re narrowing the learning and opportunity gap for low-income children in Loudoun County.

We’re narrowing the learning and opportunity gap for low-income children in Loudoun County. “Our main purpose for enhancing the current roster of educational programs is to create an exciting environment that will inspire our program participants to excel and succeed at their life goals,” says Executive Director Cecilia Capece. “We’re using all our academic resources to encourage children to explore their options and act on opportunities that might not have been possible elsewhere.” The top three after-school students who demonstrate grade improvement, have read the most books for their grade level, or produce the greatest number of book reports will be rewarded with one of three prizes featured in the library (a telescope, a Kindle or microscope).

Sterling Library Branch Manager Katherine Kalil Visits INMED

Sterling Library Branch Manager Katherine Kalil stopped by to check out our new reading and research library. Sterling Library is another one of our faithful community partners, bringing its mobile library to our summer camps in June and July and to our after-school program throughout the school year. Katie also serves on our Program Advisory Board, which meets quarterly to support not only INMED’s programs but other nonprofits in our community.
