INMED’s 1st Family Fun Fest Draws Hundreds

STERLING, VA (September 16, 2019): A picture-perfect day and unlimited access to all the amenities of Dulles Golf Center & Sports Park were a winning combination for celebrating INMED Partnerships for Children’s 25th anniversary in Loudoun County. The nonprofit’s first Family Fun Fest, held last Sunday, drew hundreds of families from around the DC Metro region.

“Our team was just blown away by the outpouring of businesses and organizations that approached us unsolicited to make our event a great experience for local families,” said Jennifer Lassiter Smith, Director of US programs for INMED. “From the generosity of Dulles Golf to all the vendors who entertained our guests to the amazing food by Ford’s Fish Shack, vegan alternatives from Plat Baz, and Ono Wai Shave Ice on such a hot day, it was just humbling and overwhelming.”

Other special features of the event were performances by teen musicians from Bach to Rock, a donated bouncy castle from Virginia Fun Services and mesmerizing juggling by Jester Jerry Higginson.

“Being able to take my family to enjoy all these activities for just $5 each was a huge gift for me as a single mother,” said Michoale Lewis, a former program participant at INMED’s Opportunity Center in Sterling. “INMED is about serving the community, and they pulled out all the stops on this event, so families like mine could have an afternoon to remember!”

INMED has been serving disadvantaged children and low-income families in Loudoun since 1994, with programs designed to give children a healthy start in life and opportunities for families to achieve self-reliance and financial independence. “That is the goal of all our programs here in the US and internationally,” said INMED founder and CEO Dr. Linda Pfeiffer. “Through a variety of multi-sector partnerships and local affiliates, INMED makes sustainable impacts on vulnerable individuals—more than 9 million in the last year alone.”

All proceeds from the Family Fun Fest will benefit INMED’s Family & Youth Opportunity Center in Sterling.

STEAM Day

INMED Opportunity Center hosted a STEAM Day on Saturday, December 1st. Children ages 5-13 years old came to the Center and participated in science related activities and a contest of building a bridge that was solely about working together. For each activity they learned about measuring, which included making a Lava Lamp, Volcano Explosion, and Slime. The students were grouped by age and had 30 minutes using Play-Doh, craft sticks, and pipe cleaners to compete to build the best bridge. Thank you to all who participated.
