Family Fun at INMED’s 1st Science Expo

STERLING, VA (May 29, 2018): INMED inspired and awed future scientists at its first Mini Science Expo at the Family & Youth Opportunity Center. Volunteers from local technology firms and STEM-focused organizations wowed the crowd of children and their parents with a variety of hands-on activities, including Samsung 3D virtual goggle adventures by Talentline; a desktop flight simulator and wooden airplane assembly by Rockwell Collins; a slime piano and sound wave tube from the Children’s Science Center Lab; dry ice experiments and lava lamp making by SciGenius; 3D scanning and printing by The YouthQuest Foundation; electronic circuit, windmill and fuel cell demonstrations by Nova Enrichment Academy; creative coding activities by Sterling Public Library, and LEGO® robot building kits by YMCA Loudoun County.

The event also showcased INMED’s STEAM-focused programs for at-risk children and summer learning camps to prepare today’s youth to succeed in the 21st century. “Inspiring children and narrowing opportunity gaps are two key goals of INMED’s Opportunity Center,” said Cecilia Capece, Executive Director. “When children don’t want to leave our center because they wish to stay and learn more, we know we have done our job well. We are also thankful for the participation and support of our local business and community partners to make these outreach events possible.”
