María Elena Vásquez-Alvarez – Executive Director
Opportunity Center Executive Director María Elena Vásquez-Alvarez holds a Social Work licensure degree from the University of Costa Rica and a master’s degree in family and child development from Virginia Tech. She is well known within local, regional and state agencies as an expert in issues regarding helping vulnerable families overcome their challenges to achieve stability and success. She has been with INMED since 1999, has served as the Director of Loudoun Programs since 2008, and was named the Executive Director of INMED’s new Opportunity Center in 2014.
Mrs. Vásquez-Alvarez is a member of the Loudoun County Continuum of Care and was recently elected as a member of its first Governance Board, and is also a member of the Loudoun Human Services Network, Northern Virginia Allies in Prevention Coalition, Promoting Safe and Stable Families Committee, Healthy Families Virginia Directors’Network, Healthy Families Virginia’s Quality Assurance Committee, and the Healthy Families Virginia’s Northern Virginia Region Accreditation Work Group. She is a 2008 graduate of Leadership Loudoun.
As a Latino immigrant, Mrs. Vásquez-Alvarez is recognized as an expert on the needs of the Latino population. She has been invited by the Virginia Family Violence Prevention Program, and the Executive Board of the Family and Children’s Trust Fund about INMED’s success in reaching out and providing services to the Latino population.
